“An unstable surface, oscillating between remembrance and erasure.”

Souvenir draws on a photograph taken in Imsouane, Morocco, a place marked by a recent and brutal transformation of its landscape. Following tourism development projects, homes were destroyed and communities displaced, profoundly altering the balance of the territory. The work reflects on this gradual disappearance — of places as much as of memory.

The original image is transferred onto four wooden panels, fragmenting the landscape and creating distance from the source photograph. Acrylic painting then alters the scene: the sky is painted over, overflowing, almost erased in places, like a gesture of dilution and disappearance. This treatment turns the landscape into an unstable surface, oscillating between remembrance and erasure.

The surfboard, an emblem of Imsouane, becomes a vessel of memory. Covered with a collage of motifs drawn from Amazigh rugs, it layers cultural and territorial references. Surfing, a practice tied to the site’s tourist appeal, is thus set in tension with traditional textiles, bearers of stories, gestures and transmission.
