“The opening reveals not a flaw, but a potential.”
This installation presents two Moroccan belghas hung on the wall: one kept in its original state, the other opened and reconfigured through visibly re-stitched seams. The gesture is neither destructive nor reparative: it seeks to make perceptible what usually remains hidden within the object — its internal structure, its zones of tension, the elements that compose it and hold it together.
By exposing the interior and embracing the intervention through a contrasting thread, the work shifts the status of the belgha from a utilitarian, domestic object toward an open form — looked at rather than worn. The confrontation between the two states reveals a shift in the object’s symbolic capital: from a slipper associated with use, transmission and everyday life, it becomes a site of reflection on materiality, gesture and transformation.
The whole offers a restrained reading of the object as a form in transition, where the opening reveals not a flaw, but a potential.
